FAQs

Thank you for choosing Cycle Albania to take you on your next adventure!

In order to prepare for your trip, please ensure you read through the below information carefully as it contains important details about your booking and may answer any potential questions you could have. In addition for any further questions you can also always contact Out Team.

Before you book

Useful consideration before you book with us.

Booking Conditions
Visas

Obtaining any visas that are required is your responsibility. Details of current visa requirements for the country you are visiting or for transit destinations are given on your invoice. Visa regulations can, and do, change, sometimes at short notice, but where we become aware of changes to regulations, we will notify you. We cannot be held responsible for mistakes by embassies or third parties, sudden changes to regulations or actions of border officials which are beyond our control.

Travel Insurance

It is highly recommended that you have a valid travel insurance policy, not only to cover the cost of medical treatment, but also to protect the value of your holiday in the event of cancellation. Cycle Albania does not provide health or travel insurance.

Travel Safety

Cycle Albania monitors travel advice closely for every country we visit, and we follow their advice to the letter. Should we find advise against travel to country or a region for any reason, we will contact everyone who is booked to travel to look into alternative options.

Training and fitness

For our trips, we are often asked ‘what kind of fitness levels are required?’ or ‘what kind of training do I need to do?’ Of course, if you have booked a trip that is at the upper end of your capabilities, you want to know that you have done all you can to prepare. Unfortunately however, these questions are often the most difficult to answer. Only you know your current fitness levels and capabilities, and can prepare according to the options available to you.

Where altitude is involved, your ability to acclimatise is going to have a much greater impact on your progress than your fitness. However, poor fitness and preparation is certainly not going to increase your chances.

What are the options to book on a tour?

All the options below can be added at the main booking Form.

What is the best time of year to cycle in Albania?

Definitely April and October. Albania has a temperate, Mediterranean climate. March 15th is officially the first day of spring and things really start to hot up toward the end of the month when clear skies and balmy temperatures provide a nice way to ease into the heat of summer. Spring and autumn brings sunshine and maximum temperatures of between 20-30 degrees Celsius. Days are long with sunrise before 6:00am and sunset after 8:30pm at the height of summer!

Can I join with my own bicycle?

I'd like a custom tour just for me and my friends. Can you arrange it?

We can run them with two or twenty people. They are ideal in that we can precisely target your specific needs and requirements. Hotel selections? Duration? Dates? Inclusions? Routings? These are all elements that you can have a say in. From budget to over the top luxury, we enjoy the challenge of overcoming logistical issues and providing the ultimate and intimate riding experience that comes with a private tour.

Can my non-riding partner book a tour and follow from the support van?

Yes, the van can accommodate non-riders comfortably. All our vans are new WV T6 Multivan with planly of room and comfort.

Preparing For My Trip

Getting prepared for your travels

Passport Requirements

All travelers require a full passport for Cycle Albania tours; generally, this should be valid for six months after the date of your scheduled return home. Requirements change often and other regulations may apply, so be sure to check with the nearest embassy of the country you intend to visit.

Please note that for certain trips, we will require your passport details prior to accepting your booking.

I have booked an airport shuttle. Who's going to pick me up?

On the trip notes send to you, there will be clear and easy instructions on how to have an effortless journey from the airport to the first hotel. Make sure that you store our cell number on your phone before arriving in Tirana and notify us as soon as possible for any flight changes.

Do the bicycles come with panniers or other accessories?

All our bicycles are equipped a pannier rack. If you decide to bring your own peddles and saddle, those will be fitted on first day of cycling during the bike fitting.

Essentials when packing

We do not produce an individual packing list for each tour, as each person’s needs and requirements vary, even for the same trip. But, we do help you in the following ways:

  1. Travel light. One small carry-on bag and a day bag are more than adequate to travel in Albania. Considering that some hotels do not have elevators, we strongly recommend you do not bring a bag you can not carry.
  2. Helmet and Water bottle.
  3. Specific medication that you may need. Can’t find everything in Albania!
  4. If you have ever had an anaphylactic reaction it is mandatory to bring with you an Epinephrine Auto Injector (Epipen or similar)
What clothes do i need?

It is important to layer your clothing for different climates, as our tours may go through cool high mountain passes on one day and warm valley lowlands on the next. Rain in the mountains can occur unexpectedly, so you should bring a rain suit. Helmet is a must unless you have made further arrangements with us.

Will I have a room mate?

All tours are booked double occupancy which means two people to a room. If you are coming solo we will attempt to find a room mate for you. The only guarantee that you will have a room mate is if you bring one along. If you choose to have your own room there will always be a single supplement fee. If for any reason we are unable to find you a room mate you will be in a single room and therefore charged the supplement. No exceptions! These circumstances are beyond our control, however, we will do what ever possible to spare you of the additional expense.

Travel money and currency

You will need to take enough money to cover the cost of meals not included in the trip cost and of drinks, tipping and other incidentals including shopping and optional activities. Advice on the amounts required and the best currency to take is given in the trip notes.

Many countries have ATM machines, particularly in major cities, and this can be an ideal way to access cash abroad, although bank charges are sometimes quite high. In addition, credit cards are now very widely accepted, particularly in larger cities. Travellers cheques can also be useful in certain destinations, but are often time consuming and costly to exchange.
